Ikea Singapore bookbook
In this article

IKEA has cheekily introduced the latest gadget that does not require cables and will never run out of battery. It is not a digital book or e-book – it’s a bookbook™ pre-installed with thousands of stunning pictures of home furnishing. Loading is instantaneous and it will never lag no matter how fast you scroll.

The best part?

It’s free.

By the end of the video, you might have figured it out that IKEA still believes in the good ol’ print catalog. However, there could still be some downsides to the bookbook™ as we intepret it:

  • Not water resistant
  • Use it at your own risk. Papercuts may occur.
  • Over time, book may become flimsy and pages may rip.
  • Does not come with user guide or user support.

But since it’s free, I guess beggars can’t be choosers! Overall, we give the bookbook™ a ratings of 4.5 stars.

Jokes aside, this is definitely one of the most memorable Apple parodies ever created. All of us know that the way the video was filmed resembles Apple’s trademark product videos. We especially love how they localised it to what looks like a Singaporean mailbox at the end. Brilliant and well played, IKEA!

The video, which came out yesterday, has garnered over 100,000 views and rode on the hype around the upcoming Apple event next week.

If you are interested in getting the new revolutionary bookbook, you can get them at http://IKEA.sg/bookbook or http://IKEA.my/bookbook starting mid September.
