This year has been an interesting one for Vulcan Post Malaysia. Other than regularly covering cool happenings in the local startup, digital and lifestyle scene, we held two successful community events in our Tipping Point series (you can read about the most recent one here) and we also attended a number of startup events in order to stay in tune with the community we are so passionate about.
Having started early this year, we’ve managed to cover significant ground in a short time—and we have yet another milestone to commemorate.
We recently forged a content partnership with Media Prima Digital for their new app called Newsplus. Vulcan Post will be providing exclusive content on Malaysian entrepreneurship, startups and apps for the Newsplus app.
Media Prima Digital is the online arm of Media Prima Berhad, one of Malaysia’s leading fully-integrated media group and one of Malaysia’s top 100 largest listed companies by revenue. Media Prima has equity interests in TV3, 8TV, ntv7 and TV9. In addition, they also own more than 98 percent equity interest in The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad (NSTP), Malaysia’s largest publisher with three national newspapers; New Straits Times, Berita Harian and Harian Metro. They also own three radio stations, Fly Fm, Hot FM, and one FM.
CEO Datuk Zainul Arifin said, “MPD was looking for a content partner that appeals to the millenials who increasingly turn to mobile or apps to satiate their hunger for relevant, call-for-action info needs.”
Given that there are a significant number of other publishers in Malaysia who present their thoughts on tech and startups in Asia with a distinct and edgy flavour, we are more than honoured to have been selected for this exclusive content partnership.
He also added, “Vulcan Post fits the bill perfectly with its digital lifestyle content and lively, engaging writing style. This win-win collaboration offers an opportunity to both Vulcan Post and MPD to not only grow their current audience but also acquire new eyeballs through a rich, diverse flow of serious and light reading articles.”
Through this partnership we will also be providing entertaining and inspiring stories that we believe will be worthwhile for our readers and the users of the app. We hope that through this avenue we will be reaching out to a new breed of users. Users that are always on the move but yet want to stay in touch with topics that they are truly passionate about.
Newsplus is a personalised news and lifestyle content aggregator app that curates the latest events and social news from four TV stations, three newspapers, three portals (and counting) so that readers get to keep up with the latest happenings and their favourite publishers.
That being said it’s important to note that Newsplus is a very new mobile app that curates content from various Malaysian publishers. Newsplus will be curating both written and video-based content that the users can check out.
Instead of scrolling through piles of articles, you can customise the content that’s displayed to you by selecting categories that you’re interested in, like startups and entrepreneurship, technology, Malaysian news, and more. The app also provides you with an option of only checking out content from your favourite publishers.
The Newsplus app is available for download on both the App Store and the Play Store. The app is still relatively new and Media Prima Digital is working on improving its interface and tweaking the app to improve its user friendliness and functionality.
