The adage ‘the early bird gets the worm’ is true for most workaholics who head out bright and early in order to beat the traffic jam woes. However, being stuck behind a long queue of cars is not fun at all, and if there is an option to avoid it whilst also getting the tummies filled, then that would be the best solution of all.

These 12 cafés around Klang Valley would make for good places of detours for a quick meal before a busy day at the office. Best part is that they are all open by 8 in the morning (except 3 of them which opens at 8.30am) and serve a wide breakfast spread which means you get to have good food in your tummy by 8.30am before you head off to your busy day.

1. Artisan Roast KL

Artisan Roast KL in TTDI is a great place for those who are looking for a cuppa joe before work just to help stifle the yawns. The breakfast menu which runs up till 3pm is inclusive of smoked salmon toast and eggs as well as pikelets with an option of cream and mixed berries compote. There are also breakfast sets available which comes with a choice of long black or long red.

2. Departure Lounge

Departure Lounge in Damansara Uptown features a unique interior which definitely brings to mind a fancy airport with its quirky displays—even the menu is reminiscent of a departure board. This café offers an all-day breakfast option inclusive of  mushroom on toast and a ‘New Yorker’, which is toasted bagel with cream cheese.

3. Frisky Goat

If the name itself does not intrigue customers, perhaps the fact that this place in TTDI offers an ‘almost’ all-day breakfast from 8am through 3.30pm, might stir some interest. Frisky Goat’s menu option includes waffles which are elaborately stacked with all the works. For instance, the waffles a l’americaine comes with condiments like banana, walnuts, and ice cream too.

4. Three Little Birds

Three Little Birds is a café known for its long wide table settings that can seat plenty of friends around it. However, if you can’t rope in a bunch of buddies for a quick breakfast, there is also a corner which can seat less people. For breakfast, which is aptly called “Day Starters”, the options are a plain ol’ croissant, a Valrhona choc croissant, and a egg mayo croissant. Coffee is served here too.

5. LOKL Coffee Co

LOKL Coffee serves up breakfast that looks aesthetically pleasing, and even actress Cheryl Samad paid a visit here. They offer bagels, eggs dishes, pancakes, waffles, bread dishes and muesli. Muesli would make a good healthy breakfast that is not too filling, but just hits the spot and fulfills the wholegrain requirements for the day.

6. Yeast

Not everybody wants to have a full-on meal for breakfast, hence Yeast would make a good choice as it offers daily-made pastries and danishes from 8am-3pm. All you need to do is to kindly check in with the waiters for what is fresh for the day. Some options in this café include madeleines, nutella puffs, and smoked duck cheese puffs. If you’re up for breakfast dishes, Yeast has got you covered too.

7. Quartet TTDI

This café in TTDI is the perfect place for an elaborate morning where you have time to spare as it is has pretty stunning wall art and cosy couches to lounge in. However, even if time is not a luxury on a workday, it is still a good location to grab something to munch on before work. Options include their chocolate donuts which run out quickly, so if you’ve got a sweet tooth, do head there bright and early.

8. Chequers

Waffles are the specialty of this café and they look delicious enough to sink your teeth into them, with options like a cinnamon waffle served with caramelised apples, topped in honey mint sauce and vanilla ice cream. Dessert for breakfast is alright as a treat once in a while, but if you’re looking for something lightern, you can also opt to have a stack of pancakes with berry mascarpone and maple syrup.

9. Levain Boulangerie Patisserie

The name of this café may be a mouthful for some, but besides serving up breakfast dishes, there are also buns that you can grab to-go for a little mid-day snack later on in the day. For breakfast, there is the coddled egg dish with a side of bread and salad served with 2 types of sauces, amongst its myriad of selections. The bakery also offers buns like the Mochiri cheese bun and raisin danish.

10. CoffeeSociété

Breakfast at this café in Publika is a true indulgence. Take for instance the Big Breakfast from CoffeeSociété  that comes with baked beans, wild mushrooms, free range eggs, grilled chipolata, grilled tomato, hash browns, beef bacon and multigrain toast. This place provides meal options that will keep one full till lunch time, with a menu inclusive of salmon with toast or bagel.

11. The Carpenter’s Daughter

The Carpenter’s Daughter opens at a slightly later time of 8.30a.m. but it is definitely worth the extra half an hour wait. The interior of the café located in Taipan, Subang Jaya, is reminiscent of someone’s living room and it has wide selection of breads and pastries from the bakery section if you’re just looking for a quick bite. However, if you have a little more time (and appetite) to spare, the breakfast menu consists of everything from pancakes to egg dishes to whet your appetite till lunchtime swings by.

12. VCR Café

VCR Café has a cosy interior featuring full-length windows so you can daydream about your upcoming weekend whilst nursing a warm cup of coffee. The breakfast spread at this café consists of french toast, fruit granola and even a unique potato waffle. VCR’s specialty is their coffee, so whilst you’re here, grab a cup of Joe on the go too.
