Does it still surprise you how smartphones have evolved to become a communications tool as much as it is an all around, reliable digicam? In the years since smartphones were introduced, their makers have focused on developing their core features as well as their camera capabilities. The result? You now essentially have an exceptionally powerful camera in your hands.

But not all phone cameras are created equal. Some have taken the time to make sure that their smartphones offer the crispest, highest definition, true to life images, with impressive megapixel counts. And for 2015, here are some of the best ones out there.

Sony’s latest flagship has upgraded its rear camera to a 23-megapixel snapper that comes equipped with phase detection autofocus and an LED flash. For selfies, the front camera is pretty decent, with 5.1 megapixels that can record 1080 pixel, high definition videos. Both cameras offer face detection, HDR, panorama, touch focus and geo-tagging.

HTC’s successor to the very successful M8 gets a massive megapixel boost, with a rear camera that features 20 megapixels. The front camera falls a little short versus its main competitors in this category, with only 4 megapixels.

16 megapixels may not seem like much given the contenders on this list, but Samsung’s camera features, which features optical image stabilisation, LED flash and autofocus delivers an impressive, crisp and clear picture every single time.

Impressive though these camera specs are, we’re likely to see even higher megapixels in the coming year. Nevertheless, if you’re treating yourself to a new gadget before 2015 winds to a close, be sure to choose from these and enjoy capturing the holiday spirit in brilliant quality.
