Just 2 days after revealing that the Grab users will soon be able to book tickets, hotel rooms, watch videos, and plan their trips with the app, Grab is back with another piece of news.

This time, relating to their on-demand courier delivery service GrabExpress.

The last we heard about GrabExpress was last year, when the firm announced the launch of its beta trial in Singapore.

Just like how users hail rides, GrabExpress offers on-demand door-to-door delivery and courier services.

Then, GrabExpress beta only covered select areas in Singapore, and Melvin Vu, Regional Head of Markets, GrabExpress said that they “will be studying the results of this beta trial and gathering feedback from users and delivery-partners before rolling out to everyone”.

Half a year later, it seems like GrabExpress is now ready to rumble.

Today, a strategic partnership between logistics company Ninja Van and Grab was announced.

With the collaboration, Ninja Van’s logistics services will be available on the Grab app via GrabExpress in the second quarter of 2019.

Following which, the service will be rolled out in phases across the region.

The regional partnership will expand GrabExpress’s delivery services to include more options like nationwide scheduled deliveries.

It also enlarges GrabExpress’s regional coverage, making inter-city deliveries possible.

GrabExpress is currently available in 150 cities in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia – countries that Ninja Van is most active in.

GrabExpress was said to have grown instant and same-day delivery volumes “by more than three times” from March 2018 to December 2018.

Said Adelene Foo, Head of GrabExpress: “This partnership with Ninja Van enables us to offer the widest range of delivery options in Southeast Asia from within the Grab app, and make it easy for sellers, buyers and merchants to send and receive parcels.”

What’s interesting to note is that as part of the partnership, Grab has invested an undisclosed amount in Ninja Van.

According to the press release, Ninja Van will also work towards adopting GrabPay across its platform and collaborating with Grab to roll out lending and insurance products under the Grab Financial Group to its merchants and delivery partners.
