The telco war in Singapore is heating up with telco firms and MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators) ramping up their offerings for data-hungry consumers.

In February, Circles.Life upgraded its add-on to offer unlimited data for $20/month.

The following month, Singtel launched a SIM-only plan called GOMO that offers 20GB data, 200 minutes of talktime, 200 SMSes and free caller ID for also $20/month.

Meanwhile, Australia-based MVNO Zero Mobile issued a “direct challenge” to rivals last month by slashing its mobile plan prices and increasing its data limit to 45GB.

StarHub has since jumped on the bandwagon and rolled out a new no-contract SIM-only plan that rivals Singtel’s GOMO last Saturday (18 May).

Called giga!, it offers 25GB data, 1000 minutes of talktime, 1000 SMSes, free incoming calls and caller ID for $25/month.

Additional local data can be purchased for $2 for every 1GB.

If you’re a heavy social media user, you can purchase specific data packs tied to apps like Facebook/Instagram or WhatsApp, at only $1 per 1GB.

“Our lifestyle packs are designed to be stackable and bite-sized, so customers have full choice to buy only what they need — as little or as much as they want,” said giga!.

What’s also interesting about this plan is that unused data can be rolled over for up to 2 months, capped at 25GB.

According to giga!, it is the only telco in Singapore to offer this unique data rollover feature.

For their roaming option (Jetset giga!), you can buy 1GB of data for $5.

It can be used in any of these 14 countries: Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

While the list is not extensive, it is still very value-for-money for users who often travel within Asia.

You can purchase the Jetset giga! pass anytime up to 3 months before traveling, and it will be automatically activated and valid for 5 days.

Customers can also choose to stack up to 5 passes at one go (all passes will be activated together and expire on the same date), or choose to purchase the next pass when one runs out.

For users who sign up by 18 June 2019, giga! is offering free subscription for the first month.

How To Register?

A sub brand of StarHub, giga! positions itself as a fully digital service.

“We have our our platforms, own customer support channels, own payment gateway, own ID verification platform,” said the brand.

To sign up, you need to download giga! app via App Store or Google Play.

Giga! operates its business entirely through its mobile app and is the first mobile operator to implement Digital ID verification.

You’ll need to take a photo of your ID (either NRIC or passport) and a selfie to verify your registration.

Upon registration, giga! will courier over your SIM card, which will be delivered within 24 hours.
