Grab has just announced enhancements to GrabShare, its on-demand commercial carpooling service.
To make GrabShare rides even more affordable, Grab will be introducing a new option that will take up to five minutes to match riders to drivers. Grab drivers will also get to enjoy “optimised earnings”.
Simply put, GrabShare users will soon be able to choose between two options when they book a ride.
The first option is what users are already familiar with, and riders will be matched to drivers immediately.
The new option, however, will require users to wait up to five minutes before they are allocated a ride.
During the waiting period, GrabShare’s system will optimise travelling routes by matching passengers’ rides with other parties and minimise detours for a more efficient and lower fare ride.
Drivers will stand to benefit from the reduction of idle time and increased assurance of earnings.
This new option will also come with an “Estimated Time to Destination” feature that will let passengers know when they’ll arrive at their destinations before they choose to book a ride.
“We believe GrabShare is a good fit for commuters who typically spend more than 40 minutes on public transport and have to make at least one transfer,” said Yee Wee Tang, Country Head of Grab Singapore.
“The new GrabShare option will provide greater value to these commuters with a more affordable and comfortable journey.”
The enhancements will roll out progressively from 8 July.
