This year, the Singapore Fintech Festival (SFF) celebrates its fifth anniversary as the largest and most inclusive fintech festival in the world.

In fact, it is the world’s largest fintech event hosted by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Since its inception in 2016, SFF has been providing a global platform for discussions on challenges and opportunities facing the financial and fintech industries, such as issues on financial inclusion and green technologies and sustainability.

“SFF has been the go-to platform showcasing innovative technologies from around the world, driving discussion on their potential to shape the future of financial services,” said Sopnendu Mohanty, Chief Fintech Officer of MAS.

The 2020 edition will shine a spotlight on pioneers who have made a difference: rising stars with the potential to shape the post-Covid financial sector, and leaders who are creating new opportunities for society.

This year, the event is scheduled to take place from 7 to 11 December 2020, and will feature a unique hybrid format.

Over 800 global speakers will join the upcoming SFF, including heads of state, financial and tech leaders, policy makers, leading startups, and multilateral agencies.

SFF will provide a combined online-offline platform for the global fintech and deep tech communities to continue to engage and connect in spite of the challenges with international travel.

The event will feature an “online city” with various physical locations around the world, centred on businesses activities to boost sales cycles, discover partnerships and generate investments.

BlockShow will play an active role in curating blockchain and digital currency themes and sessions across the SFF.

It will also connect the blockchain ecosystem with the global FinTech community, driving discussions with industry leaders to facilitate knowledge sharing on blockchain.

Over the years, BlockShow has aimed to drive conversations that focus on
innovation in blockchain technology into disruptive ideas that benefit various industries.

It held its first online trade show, Unitize, in partnership with San
Francisco Blockchain Week, attracting over 10,000 attendees.

This year, blockchain and digital currencies have taken on greater mainstream recognition.

Despite past skepticism, a positive change of acceptance has been taking place as seen in China’s Digital Currency initiative, Libra’s growing corporate partnerships globally.

The upcoming SFF will address global challenges centred around people and talent across the five days.

Each day will be a dedicated summit that focuses on recovering from the pandemic (economic summit), creating the infrastructure for a digital economy (infrastructure summit), enhancing inclusion and sustainability (impact summit), restoring investors’ confidence (investor summit) and building skills for the future (talent summit).

For instance, one of the themes for the economic summit will be the 2021 path to recovery and this includes COVID-driven digital transformation in financial services and beyond.

Singapore, for one, has taken strides in adopting blockchain in its financial ecosystem.

“We are delighted to combine forces with BlockShow to bring together a strong line-up of Blockchain leaders and curate discussions to foster further collaboration on the use of Blockchain, to support business objectives and pandemic recovery into 2021,” said Sopnendu.
