The number of births in Malaysia recorded in Q2 this year has seen a decline of 4.4% to 111,573 births. This is in comparison to 116,688 births during the same period in 2020, according to the Demographic Statistics reported by Astro Awani.

It was anticipated earlier this year that lockdowns due to COVID-19 would lead to a baby boom, but statistics showed otherwise, commented Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin.

In spite of reports though, a colleague of mine has seen the opposite amongst her peers; many of her friends have welcomed new additions to their growing families during the pandemic.

To help celebrate their new additions, my colleague turned to the internet. Her criteria were simple: personalised baby gifts (the type that you can print names on) that can be ordered online and shipped to Malaysia.

“As someone who was desperately doing research, I would have appreciated a list,” she mused.

With that, we’ve compiled a non-exhaustive list of 12 online businesses that make and sell personalised baby gifts that ship to Malaysia. They have been arranged alphabetically, according to where their HQs are based.

From Malaysia, to Malaysia

1. Bea & Bow

Located in KL, Bea & Bow was started after its founders Yen and Shin realised there was a lack of practical yet fun baby products in the market to buy as gifts.

Hence, their online store aims to list luxury and high-quality products at affordable prices so that people can purchase gifts for friends’ newborns, and for parents to buy products for their own children.

They also have a sister brand, leo + cru, that builds and sells its own Pikler climbing playsets.
