As we report what’s brewing in the Malaysian NFT scene on a weekly basis, it is evident that our local companies and entrepreneurs are keeping up with advancements in the space that go beyond the art scene.
Astro’s esports and gaming entertainment arm, eGG Network, has displayed its interest in the NFT world too. Through a partnership with Quinzy, a Singaporean-based gaming studio, the companies will be developing a play-to-earn (P2E) game called Buddy Beater.
What’s it about?
Buddy Beater is imagined to be a 2D animated multiplayer battle royale game that will be available on web browser and PC, according to the developer’s site.
The game is designed based on a P2E system on the Ethereum blockchain. The advantage of the P2E model is that it lets players earn money while playing the game, or by selling in-game assets on secondary marketplaces.
Thus, it is also reported that gamers can look out for eGG Network’s rare in-game items and collectable assets.
Gamers will be playing via four species in the game, Sapiens, Beast, Ancient, and Mutant. Each of them will carry its own specifications and players must fight each other with randomly assigned weapons that you’ll struggle to learn how to use correctly.
Based on Buddy Beater’s website, you won’t be able to find a weapons guide either, so beware of their side effects!
Open to early birds
Though Buddy Beater is set to launch in May 2022, interested gamers can register for its whitelist from now until April 25. This will give prospective players a chance to be part of the distribution of Buddy Beater avatars, which are the NFTs needed to participate in the game.
The developers of Buddy Beater have assured that this will be a sustainable and fairly distributed game. There will be no initial coin offerings (ICO), pre-sale, or Airdrops, but it will be based on a model developed with a well-designed tokenomic system.
A total of 18,888 avatars are up for grabs, and will be minted at 0.08 ETH or RM856.92 at the time of writing (excluding gas fees) on May 3, 2022.
