Celcom Axiata Berhad (Celcom) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with HeiTech Padu Berhad (HeiTech) to explore how they can equip Malaysian ambulances with smart healthcare technology and services.

The smart healthcare technology will be provided by HeiTech, an ICT systems and technology service provider, and it will utilise Celcom’s vast network coverage for reliable and consistent services.

HeiTech has decades of digital healthcare experience behind it, with its systems and applications already used by hospitals throughout the country.

Through this MOU, their goal is to enable emergency healthcare professionals to exchange real-time rich communication information on the go with healthcare experts in hospitals.

If implemented as planned, these tools will help professionals treat patients more efficiently and effectively, since with better preparation prior to the ambulance’s arrival, better medical decision-making measures can be taken.

The smart ambulances will be equipped with high definition (HD) and artificial intelligence (AI) cameras to monitor the condition inside the ambulance, which includes the driver’s point of view.

A body camera will also be worn by emergency healthcare responders to project a live view and situations of the patient to the hospital’s command centre.

For further transparency, the ambulances will come equipped with a fleet management system and GPS tracking system for real-time monitoring and surveillance of the vehicle’s whereabouts.

With these innovative additions, Datuk Idham Nawawi, CEO of Celcom, hopes that the smart ambulances can serve as a digital mobile emergency room to save more lives while elevating Malaysia’s healthcare industry.

The two enterprises believe that this collaboration unlocks the massive potentials of 5G in digital healthcare, starting with assisting healthcare first responders.

“The more use cases being developed translates into more possibilities of these use cases/solutions being adopted and implemented in the real world,” Dato’ Sri Mohd Hilmey Mohd Taib, President/Executive Deputy Chairman of HeiTech, concluded in a statement.
