In Malaysia’s growing electric vehicle (EV) industry, one company that has asserted itself as a key player is undoubtedly ChargeSini, a homegrown EV charging point operator (CPO).

To date, ChargeSini has established over 750 EV charging points nationwide. With this milestone, the startup claims that it is the largest Charge Point Operator (CPO) with the broadest coverage in Malaysia.

A strategic mix of residential and commercial

To broaden its footprint, ChargeSini has adopted a holistic approach to accessibility.

One-third of their chargers are located in condominiums, providing convenient overnight and home charging options. Another third are placed in malls and supermarkets, catering to EV owners who need to charge while shopping or running errands.

The remaining chargers are positioned in other commercial buildings such as office towers, restaurants, and other key public and private facilities.

This combination is very much an intentional effort on ChargeSini’s part to ensure the comprehensiveness of its network. By ensuring its network of chargers is inclusive and accessible, the company actively contributes to the nationwide effort of upping EV adoption.

“All of these did not happen overnight; ChargeSini’s team has been working intensively over the past few months to achieve these milestones,” the team said to Vulcan Post.

Collaborative synergies

More than just their own efforts, ChargeSini has also leveraged many strategic partnerships and collaboratives to expand its network.

In April, the homegrown startup reached a major milestone by partnering with Charge+, forming the largest Malaysia-Singapore EV charging network. This enables seamless charging across Southeast Asia for both parties’ users.

ChargeSini also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KTC Arkz Group to install 40 EV charging bays at Seri Iskandar Heights. This furthers its commitment to provide sustainable mobility in Malaysia’s high-rise residential communities.

The EV startup also inaugurated the largest residential EV charging facility in Putrajaya at Tamara Residence, with the esteemed presence of member of parliament Datuk Dr. Mohd Radzi bin Md Jidin.

In May, ChargeSini celebrated the installation of 32 AC chargers and three DC fast chargers at key locations, including The Food Merchant OUG and Sunway Medical Centre Penang.

“May 2024 was bustling with exhibitions,” the team added. “We had the incredible opportunity to showcase our EV solutions and connect with industry leaders at the Future Mobility Asia Exhibition and Summit in Bangkok, and the Malaysia Autoshow 2024.”

Additionally, they signed a partnership deal with Sunway Group and Huawei Malaysia to expand EV charging stations at Sunway properties nationwide.

They also revealed that Pro-Net (wholly owned by Proton Holdings Bhd) signed a deal to integrate ChargeSini DC chargers into its network.

“Soon, all Smart owners in Malaysia will be able to seamlessly find and activate ChargeSini chargers from the Hello Smart app,” they said.

To ensure continual growth, ChargeSini signed a PhD research MoU with Multimedia University (MMU) for an AI-powered partnership.

“By partnering with MMU, ChargeSini is not only tapping into a wealth of academic expertise but is also investing in the next generation of engineers and researchers who will drive future advancements in EV infrastructure,” they said.

Charging up for the next mission

It’s clear that ChargeSini is poised for further growth and expansion.

For one, the company already has over 300 locations currently pending for installation. It’ll be installing 26 EV charging stations across Penang Island by the end of 2024, as part of a Smart City project.

“But that’s not all—exciting projects are underway with various city councils, details of which will be revealed soon,” the team said.

In the coming months, ChargeSini is also gearing up for a major international presence with the upcoming participation in Electric & Power Vietnam 2024.

This will showcase their innovative EV ecosystem on a global stage while facilitating the exploration of new markets and potential partnerships.

With all these milestones they’ve already achieved, we’re excited to see how ChargeSini will continue to propel Malaysia’s EV industry forward, even beyond borders.
