4 more M’sian-made games to bond together as a family during the pandemic to #sapotlokal

[This is sponsored content with Celcom.]

With the pandemic still raging on, many of us are staying put at home, whether it’s to work, study, or play. Some families have found this as an opportune time to bond together through activities and games.

If you’re on the lookout for games to play together with your kids or friends, we have compiled a few that are locally made, so you can #sapotlokal while having fun at home.

A Note From The Sponsor: To help with gaming smoothly together and to #StayConnected, users under the Celcom MEGA™ Family Line can get Unlimited mobile internet, or 30GB of Lightning mobile internet for RM40 a month. Find out more about the plan at the end of the article.

1. Claw Stars (iOS, Android – Free)

In Claw Stars, you play as a sentient hamster on a quest to save some of your fellow animals. As you can guess from the screenshots, it operates similar to other claw games you see in the arcade. Move the claw left or right, and click a button to grab the prizes below.

But instead of stuffed toys, what you get from the prizes are gems, coins, animals and so on. The coins can be used to build better habitats for the animals you save from the claw (think of yourself as the claw saving the aliens from Toy Story). Once you finish building a habitat, you’ll then move on to a new planet, saving a host of other animals.

However, that’s not the only interesting gameplay. Some of the prizes from the claw allow you to kidnap animals or block the habitats of other players. A kidnapped animal will give you coins, and the player whose animals are kidnapped will need to pay a ransom to release them.

So if you have a few friends or family added to the game, you can play against each other and see who can be the better space hamster. The game is developed by AppXplore, and we’ve reviewed some of their games in the past too.

2. Ejen Ali: Agents’ Arena (iOS, Android – Free)

In Ejen Ali: Agents’ Arena, you can play as your favourite agent from the animated series in a 3v3 MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), similar to games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor and Vainglory.

https://youtu.be/-WjD3iZw2g0

Every agent has their own skills and attributes too. Like other MOBAs, your goal is to fight against the other team and hold control points. The more control points you hold, the more score you get. The game ends when a team scores a 100, or when the timer runs out.

If you’re a fan of Ejen Ali and have played MOBAs in the past, it’s a no-fuss game that can be played with or against friends and family. The game is developed by Common Extract, and published by Media Prima.

3. Eximius: Seize The Frontline (PC/Steam – RM51)

For families with slightly older children, Eximius: Seize The Frontline is a mixed genre PC game, combining both elements of RTS (Real-time strategy) and FPS (first-person shooter) in a single game. It is developed by Ammobox Studios, another local game studio.

In Eximius, you play as one of the Officers of the two military factions in the game. The Officer mainly experiences the game in FPS: running, gunning and securing control points. The RTS genre of the game only comes in when you’re selected as the Commander for that round, allowing you to place buildings, build units and call for help to assist your team to victory.

Multiplayer-wise, you can create your own lobby to play with family or friends, or fight against bots and other players. You can read our review here for a more in-depth look on the game.

4. Rhythm Doctor (PC/Steam – RM33)

Unlike most games in this list where it’s all just non-stop action, Rhythm Doctor puts you in the shoes of a hospital intern, in charge of a new medical process. As the name suggests, Rhythm Doctor is a rhythm game, and can be played with just a click of a button. But don’t be deceived. The game can get hard so don’t expect it to be a cakewalk.

There’s a wide variety of music genres in the game, ranging from fast-paced EDM to chill beats. Multiplayer-wise, the game allows you to tackle the stories together in co-op mode, or challenge each other via multiplayer battle. The game is developed by 7th Beat Games.

Honourable Mentions

While these games are not made locally or new, we’re including them here as potential suggestions for family-friendly fun. Your children are probably already obsessed with Roblox, but here are other alternatives that you can enjoy with them.

  1. Active Arcade: While most of the games listed are ones you can play sitting down, Active Arcade gamifies the exercise experience. You’ll do things like hop and reach for boxes, use your arms for Whack-A-Mole, and squats, without the need for extra equipment—just make sure you have space to move. The game also has a 2-player mode where you and your friends and family can play beside each other.

You’ll have to move around quite a lot / Image Credit: NEX Lab

2. Butter Royale: Butter Royale is a Battle Royale game, but with a kitchen-y twist added to it. The game is only available on Apple Arcade, but if you’ve subscribed to it, this is worth picking up. The characters are cute, it’s full of puns, and even comes with a fan-favourite announcer aptly named Cesar Salads who makes corny jokes. The gameplay is fast-paced too, and for parents concerned about safety, there isn’t any voice or text chat so your children won’t be exposed to unwanted commentary from outsiders.

A screenshot of Butter Royale / Image Credit: Mighty Bear Games

3. Pokemon Go: I’m sure you’ve walked in a mall or even passed a street corner before the pandemic hit and see people grouped around key spots holding their phones tossing pokeballs. Despite being a relatively “old” game released in 2016, many still play it to this day. With the update that allows players to play from home, the whole family can still work together, catch ‘em all, and fight raids. And once we can go out safely again, this game can encourage some extra exercise to track down gym locations.

Keep the whole family connected on 1 bill

As many of these games are mobile games, having an unlimited mobile internet plan will keep you gaming, streaming, staying safe and talking with your friends and loved ones without any worries.

With the Celcom MEGA™ Family Line, you can keep up to 3 of your subsidiary lines connected and be on the same Unlimited mobile internet plan for RM40 a month.

Note: To be eligible for the RM40 a month Celcom MEGA™ Family Line, the primary line will need to be on a Celcom MEGA™ plan from at least M Pass at RM98 and above.

With RM98/month, the primary line can get Unlimited or Lightning mobile internet, and 3 family lines are eligible for the RM40 Celcom MEGA™ Family Line.

The Unlimited Family Line will grant the subsidiary lines unlimited mobile internet with up to 5GB of monthly hotspot. So if you’re having spotty home internet, just use your hotspot for uninterrupted gaming or streaming.

As for the LIGHTNING Family Line, the mobile internet does cap at 30GB per month, but you will have a fast, uninterrupted connection, which is perfect for mobile gamers.

Unlimited Family Line LIGHTNING Family Line
Unlimited internet 30GB of monthly LIGHTNING internet
Free monthly hotspot of 5GB
Unlimited calls to all networks Unlimited calls to all networks
RM 0.20 per SMS to all networks RM 0.20 per SMS to all networks
Monthly commitment of RM40 per line Monthly commitment of RM40 per line
What the subsidiary lines can get. Note that the unlimited internet under the family line is capped at 6Mbps.

The Celcom MEGA™ Family Line is customisable too. So if one of the family members needs a LIGHTNING Pass instead, you can opt to do so, while the rest continue on with the Unlimited Pass for their Netflix binges.

If everyone is on the Unlimited Family Line, then no one has to worry about running out of data in the middle of the week.

At the end of the month, the primary line with 3 subsidiary lines will only have to pay RM98 + RM40 + RM40 + RM40 = RM218. You can get unlimited mobile internet, unlimited calls to all networks and more. This can be a more affordable deal compared to getting everyone on their own line.

The Khind VC9X6A Robotic Vacuum has a few cleaning modes that can be set to clean specific areas, or go around the house cleaning the edges. Coupled with anti-fall and anti-collision features, the bot should have a lower chance of getting itself stuck at tight spots.

The vacuum also features a mopping function so families can focus on what matters more to them instead of doing chores.

Alternative: The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO T8+ is a pricier, but comes with more features such as setting priority cleaning areas via mobile, a larger battery and stronger suction power.

2. Google Nest Mini (RM169.99)

The Google Nest Mini is a smart speaker and voice assistant rolled into one. So imagine if you have your hands full when baking a cake, but you want some music on. Say: ‘Hey Google, Play Blinding Lights’, and you’ll have music playing right out of the Google Nest Mini.

Besides that, if your TV connected to the voice assistant, you could voice command it to change the channel or YouTube video your child is watching. If your home is fully connected to the voice assistant, it can be the central point of contact, controlling the other devices through voice commands.

Alternative: The Apple HomePod mini is Apple’s take on voice assistants, but it is not readily available in Malaysia.

3. Tuya Curtain Motor (RM382.91)

The Tuya Curtain Motor is a smart 3.2m curtain motor and rail that allows you to use your phone or voice to close and open the curtains. It comes with a time control function in the app that you can set to wake your children up for school even if you’re not in that room.

Plus you can choose the speed of the curtain movement too. There are other track lengths available, but the longer they are, the higher the price.

Alternative: If you’d like a fully tailored solution made for your home, Smart Curtain Malaysia does custom fittings.

4. Townew Smart Dustbin (RM238.88)

That’s not all, press the button on the bin and it will help to seal the trash bag inside. Once sealed, the lid will automatically open for you to remove the trash. To utilise this auto-seal function, you’ll need to buy the right trash bags that complement this feature.

5. Yeelight Smart Bulb (RM59.98)

Change the atmosphere of the room using your phone / Image Credit: Yeelight

You can change the colour and brightness of the WiFi-enabled Yeelight Smart Bulb through mobile or voice, which is perfect for a touch of romantic lighting during date nights, or to turn off the light when you’re cozied up in bed.

The bulbs can also be grouped together to provide synchronised lighting for an entire room. They can be programmed according to a set family schedule to brighten or dim according to your activities.

Alternative: The Philips Hue lighting ecosystem comes with different lighting types such as downlights, lightstrips and motion sensors to smarten all your lights at home.

6. 6L Automatic Pet Feeder with Wi-Fi (RM299)

The 6L Automatic Pet Feeder with Wi-Fi can be configured to feed your pets on a timer, or manually via the mobile app. The feeder is powered via power supply and external batteries. So if the power goes out, your pets can still be fed if the timer is set.

The feeder also comes with a two-way audio system, so you can talk to your pets via your phone and see them on video. Alternatively, it can play a recording of your voice to call them for mealtimes.

Alternative: This SKYMEE Owl Robot can be an interactive toy and a treat dispenser in one, controlled via mobile.

7. Smart Frog Electric Hanger Dryer (RM168)

The Smart Frog Electric Hanger Dryer can withstand up to 5KG and it can dry the clothes within 1 to 3 hours.

It also has a switch to change between hot and cold air, so if you need it to dry quickly, use the hot air function. The cold air can then cool the warm clothes down before you put them on.

It is small and portable too, so you can pack it for your office meetings or travel.

8. EZVIZ C3W 256GB Variant (RM399)

As a HD wall-mounted outdoor Wi-Fi camera, the EZVIZ C3W comes with some extra smart features such as a two-way audio, allowing you to speak to anyone the camera has eyes on.

If you’re not home, you can set its motion sensors to activate a loud siren and strobe light to scare off intruders upon detection. This trigger will also send a notification to your phone through its app.

The memory capacity allows it to save video history that you can view remotely. The camera has 3 night vision modes, and AI-powered person detection, which reduces the amount of false alarms triggered by animals.

9. Samsung Ezon SHS-1321 Smart Digital Door Lock (RM389)

Other than unlocking your door with a passcode (or an RFID card key), the Samsung Ezon SHS-1321 has additional safety features. For example, 2 random numbers will appear for you to press before entering your pin. This prevents strangers from guessing your passcode since finger marks are spread out across the lock screen.

If you’re leaving for a few days, you can also set an Away mode which will automatically ring the alarm if the lock is operated within the house.

Its thermal sensor can detect high temperatures inside the house and activate its alarm in case of a fire. The door will also auto-unlock for swift evacuation.

Alternative: igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S has features such as time-sensitive codes, and unlocking via Bluetooth. If you’re expecting visitors, you can generate unique PIN codes to send to your guests so they can let themselves in.

For Just RM98/Month, You Can Get A Free Smartphone With 40GB of Internet

Having a smartphone just for work could potentially increase your productivity and your response times to clients. It also helps in some ways to separate your work responsibilities with your social and personal life.

However, having a business line and an office phone would also lead to additional expenses on your part. Not everyone has the luxury of buying 2 smartphones, but what if you could get a smartphone for free?

With the new Celcom 100,000 free phones campaign, you can get your very own smartphone just for work, with at least 40GB of mobile internet and unlimited calls to all networks with just 1 monthly payment plan.

Offering New Smartphones To Business Plan Users

Although it’s called the Celcom MEGA for Business, the plan isn’t actually just for business owners. Anyone can sign up for this particular plan and grab yourself a brand new smartphone for free.

Talking to the representative from Celcom, they said that anyone could easily sign up for the Business package and pay for it themselves.

Tip: Even better if you can convince your boss to let you include this plan’s cost into your monthly claims. After all, it’s only RM98 a month and your increased productivity will reap long term benefits for the company.

It doesn’t matter if you’re an existing or a new Celcom Business customer, you are eligible to join this promotion as long as you have the right company paperwork for it.

According to Celcom, the most important document you’ll need is the Business Registration Number (BRN) and Company Address.

And if you’re under a different provider but have Mobile Number Portability (MNP), you’ll have to port into Celcom first before signing up.

Please do take note that when you’re taking on the Celcom MEGA for Business plan, the subscription will bind you to a 24-month contract, and as per usual, early termination will incur additional charges.

With that said, you have a variety of phones to choose from.

Take the Celcom MEGA Lightning M plan for example.

At just RM98 per month, you can get yourself a free smartphone just for work, in either an Oppo A12 or a Samsung A11, 40GB of internet data and unlimited calls to all networks.

With 40GB of data a month, you can send large file attachments, work on-the-go and still have enough data left for your client calls and messages.

Bonus Promotion For All Celcom Business Customers

Other than the 100,000 free phone promotion, Celcom Business is also offering its customers a chance to win 1-years’ worth of free groceries via Boost.

Well, if you are one of the 20 Main Prize winners, Celcom will deposit RM1,000 into your Boost account every month for the next 12 months. Boost can be used to pay for groceries from merchants such as Giant, Mydin, Tesco and MBG.

If you’re tired of cooking home-cooked meals after the MCO, you can also use the money in Boost to pay for food deliveries from dahmakan, DeliverEat, and eatigo.

There’s a few terms and conditions, but two of the major ones is that you’ll need to be subscribed to Celcom via Postpaid (Corporate employees plans included) and you’ll need to have a Boost account.

They also have a list of other T&C that you should check out / Image Credit: Celcom

Note: If you’ve won but don’t have a Boost account, Celcom will automatically void your draw.

In their T&C, they said all customers are treated equally, and the more entries you have, the more chances you have of winning.

Example: As a new user to Celcom, you signed up for their RM80 MEGA plan, which’ll net you 5 entries into the contest. But two days later, you realise you need more data, so you upgrade your plan with Lightning L Pass for RM68, netting you an additional 5 entries, bringing your total entries to 10.

You can also check your number of entries on the Celcom Life app. Entries will only be counted a day after the transaction date too.

They do have a few limitations on what counts as an entry. For example, downgrading your plan will not get you any entries, nor reconnecting your old Celcom number.

If you don’t win the main prize, Celcom also has a weekly prize giveaway, giving users RM100 added into their Boost accounts for food and groceries.

Note: Winners will be notified via SMS or push notifications on the Celcom Life app.

Here’s Exactly What Business Owners Get From Paying RM655 For Celcom’s Business Suite™ Retail

Most business owners face different challenges every day. Be it slow internet, mismanaged data allocation or a complaining customer: “You only take cash ah?”.

To solve problems like these, Celcom is introducing a simple solution with Celcom Business SuiteTM Retail.

The
package features a variety of business solutions that’ll benefit
SMEs or enterprises in retail circles such as F&B and online
business owners.

Ultimately,
it aims to smoothen the workflow while assisting in the growth of the
business.

We took a look at the website, and the package comes with a lot of technical terms. So, we will attempt to simplify and list out what it offers while totalling up the price.

1. Control Everyone’s Data With Celcom Business AllShareTM

Celcom
Business AllShare
TM Gold comes with
180GB of monthly internet, unlimited calls and SMS to all networks
along with 5 Free Line numbers.

This means 5 people in your team (including you) can have a dedicated phone line just for work.

Allocating data from your quota can easily be done. / Image Credit: Celcom

As the PIC (person-in-charge), you can allocate data to specific lines. For example, Ben requires more internet than Ronald who only uses it for calls. You can then allocate more data to Ben within the 180GB quota you have.

You
can tack on additional phone lines depending on your team size too.

Current Total: The Celcom Business AllShareTM Gold package starts at just RM490.

2. Get Plug & Play Internet Access For Your Business With Celcom Business Wireless

Wi-Fi is almost a necessity nowadays for F&B businesses. / Image Credit: Celcom

The Celcom Business Wireless package comes with a router which allows your business to stay connected via 4G internet. The plus side? You don’t even have to drill holes or mount the router on walls. It’s a simple plug-and-play system.

Disclaimer:
It is not a Wi-Fi dongle, so it won’t be usable outside of your
registered address.

You
will get 150GB worth of monthly internet quota with up to 1000GB of
monthly Video or Music Walla.

You
can also give Wi-Fi access to your customers. Having extras like free
Wi-Fi could keep them in your store for longer.

Current
Total:
This costs RM135 (usual price: RM150), bringing
your current total to RM625.

3.
Let Your Customers Pay Via Credit Card With Celcom SafePay mPOS

A
free mPOS (mobile point-of-sale) device is also packaged
together, giving your customers the ability to pay you with debit or
credit cards.

It will need to be paired with a phone’s Bluetooth to work though.

Save your customers from the hassle of digging through their wallets, / Image Credit: Celcom

In urban areas where e-payments are more of the norm, it is essential for you to have a mPOS system because customers might be reluctant to use your service otherwise. After all, everyone wants convenience and alternative ways to pay.

Current
Total:
As mentioned, the Celcom SafePay mPOS is free, so
you’re still just on RM625.

4.
Reach Out To Your Customers With OMNI Communication

Telling
your customers of upcoming promotions sounds like a hassle if you
have to reach out to them individually.

With the OMNI Messaging Service that’s bundled together, you can engage customers on different platforms through a single platform. You can reach out to your customers via SMS, Voice, Email, Facebook and even through Push Notifications.

Easily reach out to your customers. / Image Credit: Celcom

However, rates might differ depending on the service you use. But with this package, you get 100 Free SMS that you can use to notify your customer.

Save
yourself the hassle of digging through Facebook or your phone’s
contacts.

Current
Total:
OMNI Communication runs on a Pay Per Use basis, so the
current total is still RM625.

5.
Build A Virtual Office With Celcom VirtuExt
TM

Celcom
VirtuExtTM simply means a virtual extension. It allows you
to redirect calls to mobile numbers using the Celcom VirtuExtTM
SwitchBoard.

In layman’s terms, calls made to the landlines can be redirected to mobile numbers through this feature. This means that your business can be contacted even when you’re not in the building.

The caller can decide who they wish to talk to. / Image Credit: Celcom

The SwitchBoard can also be controlled and managed easily by the Enterprise Admin and Attendants. Conference calls can also be conducted via Celcom VirtuExtTM, saving you the time and money from fussing with other conference call solutions.

Just
like a traditional extension, multiple customers can call your
business with just a single number—anywhere and anytime.

Now
you’ll never miss that important sale because of a missed call
anymore.

Current
Total:
The Celcom VirtuEXTTM will cost you RM30
(usually costs RM60) for 3 extensions, bringing your total to RM655.

6.
Add-On Options

The
package also allows you to opt-in for other add-ons, depending on
your needs.

Let’s
say that you need to handle word docs or spreadsheets for your
business. You can opt-in for the Office 365 – Business Essentials
package for just RM13 a month and that’ll give you online
versions of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint for up to 300 users.

If
you require more extensions on your Celcom VirtuEXTTM, you
can add an extension for an additional RM10 per extension.

You could also add-on LBA (Location-Based Advertising) which allows you to personalise marketing campaigns and send those out via SMS to the right target customer at the right time.

Savings Galore

By
subscribing to Celcom Business SuiteTM Retail, you’re
saving RM1,080 (RM 15 + RM30 for 24 months).
You’ll also be saving on precious time when you subscribe to this
package.

Celcom
Business AllShareTM will spare you from worrying about
incurring additional costs on personal numbers for you and your team
while at work.

Having
a Wi-Fi connection from Celcom Business Wireless will keep your
business connected and offering your customers free Wi-Fi will
potentially keep them on the premises for longer.

Celcom VirtuEXTTM and OMNI Communications will bring in more potential customers or sales too. With Celcom SafePay mPOS, you’re giving your customers more alternate ways to pay, and that’ll save time on both parties.

With this bundle, you can focus on your business and not sweat on the small communication stuff.

Whether You’re Working At Home, Binge Watching, Or Gaming, Celcom Has Got You These 2 Weeks

Important Announcement: Celcom encourages all Malaysians to stay at home and practice social distancing during the Movement Control Order.

Malaysians nationwide are now experiencing something unprecedented in our modern age: having to stay at home for extended periods of time.

Not all of us will be having the same experience—for some, it’s work as usual, for others, it’s a time to perhaps enjoy a few movies, pick up some new skills through e-learning, or reconnect with the friends and family we were always too “busy” to catch.

And others could even be forced to be separated from their families in different states or areas.

But for most of us who are used to being out of home at least 5 days a week, it can be a challenge. It’s a time of boredom, loss of freedom, and uncertainty, and that can be hard to manage, without loved ones by your side.

As a major telco in Malaysia, Celcom is also set to do their part, and they’ve come up with quite a few services to help their customers in these trying times.

Postpaid

For Celcom Postpaid customers, here’s what you can get:

  1. Free unlimited WhatsApp for chats, voice and video calls (From 8 AM to 6 PM) until April 14,
  2. Unlimited access to Microsoft Office 365 for free (From 8 AM to 6 PM) until April 14,
  3. Free unlimited calls and access to the Ministry of Health Hotline Branches, MCO and Crisis Preparedness Response Centre Hotline,
  4. 50% off Unlimited Internet Pass (Celcom MEGA Postpaid only),
  5. 50% off Family lines (Celcom MEGA Postpaid only).

For the Celcom MEGA Postpaid add-ons, you can head on to the Celcom Online Shop, so there’s no need to step out of the house. This means that if you’re far apart from your family, you can check in on how they’re doing without taking a hit on your data quota.

Prepaid

For Celcom Xpax Prepaid customers, you’re not left out. You’re also getting free unlimited WhatsApp usage, unlimited access to Microsoft Office 365 and free access to MOH, MCO and CPRC hotline.

Celcom is offering users a chance to double up their unlimited internet access hours through the Celcom Ultra Hour Pass. The regular RM2 option which gives 3 hours of uninterrupted, unlimited internet access is now extended to 6 hours.

The Ultra Hour Pass is only available through the Celcom Life App.

Prepaid users who link their Boost e-wallets to the Celcom Life App can also enjoy 10% cashback when you top up a minimum of RM10 or purchase internet passes using the app.

Celcom Walla

If you’re thinking of binging on some shows be it on YouTube, Netflix or AstroGo, Celcom has got you covered with their Video Walla options.

You can subscribe to Video Walla from as low as RM2 for 3GB of data dedicated purely for video.

This means that watching videos from Netflix won’t be taking quota away from your normal data plan. If you want to binge more, they have other options: RM7 for 10GB or RM20 for 15GB.

But, if videos are not your groove, then you could also opt-in for their Music Walla. With Music Walla, all you have to do is pay RM3 and you’ll have unlimited data for music streaming services such as Spotify, Syok, FlyFM and JOOX.

And if you’re a gamer at heart like me, there’s Celcom Games Walla. Do note that only 3 games are currently under the Games Walla list: Garena Free Fire, PUBG Mobile and AOV (Arena Of Valor). Their subscription package also starts at RM2 for 3GB of gaming data.

You can opt-in to the Walla options by going through the Celcom Life App available on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Even as we deal with the effects of social distancing for the next two weeks, many eyes will also be on organisations and businesses to see their response. However, it’s good to see that many are stepping up to inject a thread of positivity through the gloom.

And, with this, you don’t have to worry about everyone else hogging the internet connection and starting family fights because of lag. You can also catch up with family members or friends that are far and not worry about draining your data.

And for everyone reading, stay home, stay safe, and stay calm.

Get 10% Cashback When You Top-Up Your Celcom Xpax Prepaid Plan With The Celcom Life App

2020 has been quite a wild ride and we’re only
3 months into the year. We’ve had events such as the COVID-19 outbreak and
sudden political changes which are shaking up the economy.

Malaysia has had its own encounters with the virus. There are 149 reported cases locally, but 26 have already been discharged. (These numbers are accurate as of March 13.)

To assist with the local economy that has been affected by the virus, our government announced the Economic Stimulus Package and Celcom is doing their part too. They’re prepared special cashbacks that Celcom customers can redeem now.

Get Some Cashbacks When You Reload

This cashback only applies to Celcom Xpax prepaid users.

To start, simply download the Boost and Celcom Life App onto your phone and log into both of them. Once that’s done, open up the Celcom Life App and link your Boost account to it by clicking on the wallet icon on the top right.

As a postpaid customer, you can also get a one-time RM50 credit rebate per

To be eligible for this rebate, you’ll have to
opt into their auto-billing service which will deduct the bill straight from
your linked banking account monthly, and that’ll save you from potential
headaches.

According to Celcom, customers who opt into
digital monthly bills will also save up to RM10 per month from additional
charges of printed bills.

Off To A Holiday? Stay Connected Even After Finishing Your Roaming Quota.

Lunar New Year is coming and if you’re not one for family gatherings, you should be going on a solo holiday to enjoy some alone time. Everything’s packed—passports, chargers, extra socks and even a travel iron too.

But if you’re just like me (someone that tends to leave ONE thing behind), then you’ll need a packing list. With just a quick Google search, I could find thousands.

What I noticed? One crucial item people tend to forget is an international SIM card or a pocket Wi-Fi.

Sure, you can get it from the airport, but usually, those prices are hiked up. I’ve done this a few times. Most recently, I resorted to buying a Taiwanese SIM card when I travelled to Taiwan, which costed me quite a lot just to stay connected.

Instead of dealing with that, Celcom is upgrading their roaming product to ease your travel woes, and you don’t even have to change SIM cards.

Stay Connected Just Like At Home

We’re living in a connected world and data arguably is even more important than talk time or SMSes. Many of us don’t know how to live in a world where Google Maps and Instagram aren’t readily and easily accessible.

This is why in conjunction with the Celcom Passport, Celcom is introducing the Roam Like Home feature.

This allows Celcom Postpaid users who are vacation-ing overseas to stay connected even once their roaming data has been depleted, using their Malaysian internet quota.

Celcom Roam Like Home

The countries that we can roam and surf just like home are Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Searching for video reviews of good food while you’re travelling will be stutter-free too.

Roam Like Home is available on 3 different packages of 1-Day Internet Pass, 3 Day 3-In-1 Pass and 7 Day 3-In-1 Pass.

The prices are as follows:

1-Day Internet Pass: RM38 (500MB Internet)
3-Day 3-In-1 Pass: RM88 (1.5GB Internet, 100 mins of calls, 100 SMS)
7-Day 3-In-1 Pass: RM138 (3GB Internet, Unlimited calls and SMS)

If you’re a go-getter and find yourself travelling between these countries a lot, you’ll have the added benefit of being able to use the same package. If I were to travel to Bali for 3 days and then 4 days in Singapore, I’ll still be able to stay connected if I were subscribed to the 7 Day 3-In-1 Pass.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIju_PVXczc&feature=youtu.be

TL;DR:

Roam Like Home allows subscribers to stay online when travelling, even after their roaming data has been depleted. These features are available to those who subscribe to Celcom passport and it comes in three different packages with three different price points of RM38, RM88 and RM138.

That RM10 Credit You’re Reloading Now Into Your Celcom Xpax Prepaid Could Get You A Samsung Galaxy A50s

Buying a smartphone can be costly, especially if you’re going for flagship devices released in the same year.

Take for example; the iPhone 11 Pro will cost you RM4,899 and a Samsung Note10 will is priced around RM3,699.

But if you’re on a tight budget, there are always mid-range alternatives that can perform well and won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

And now, Celcom Xpax is offering its Prepaid customers a chance to win a Samsung Galaxy A50s when you reload your credit via Celcom Life app from just as low as RM10.

1. Get Started Correctly

While this may be obvious to some, you will have to be a Celcom Xpax Prepaid user to be eligible for this contest. Postpaid users will not be able to join this contest.

If you’re not a Celcom Xpax user, then you can head on to your nearest Celcom store or any authorised sellers to purchase a Prepaid SIM card. You will then have to download the Celcom Life app from the App Store or Google Play.

Connecting your account to the app shouldn’t take too long for you to go through and if your account is synced up, the next step should be fairly straightforward too.

2. Easy Reload Via Celcom Life

Gone are the days where you have to head to a physical kiosk or Celcom store to reload your cell phone plans.

All you’ll need is the Celcom Life app for everything related to your cell phone plan. You can track your internet usage, call minutes and even data roaming usage.

If you find yourself low on Internet data, you can easily reload using the app as well. To make things easier for their users, Celcom Xpax will automatically save the amount you previously reloaded using the app for faster transactions.

Topping up your account can also be done in a few easy steps. All you have to do is open up the app, click the “Reload” button on the main menu and key-in your banking/card details and that’s it.

Just a few simple steps.

Your account is now reloaded. To be eligible for this contest, make sure you only reload with either a credit/debit card or online banking.

Each RM10 you reload using the app will net you 1 entry into the contest. For example, reloading RM50 will net you 5 total entries.

Do note that the entries are accumulated weekly and will refresh every week.

Example: For week 1, topping up RM20 netted you 2 entries into the contest. On week 2, you start with 0 entries and topping up an additional RM20 will net you 2 more fresh entries to the competition.

3. Answer Trivia Questions Correctly And Quickly

As mentioned, the entries are accumulated on a weekly basis and shortlisted potential winners will be randomly selected by Celcom Xpax.

That’s not all. The shortlisted contestants will have to answer a simple trivia question and the first 6 potential weekly winners to answer the question correctly will then win themselves a brand-new Samsung Galaxy A50s and its specs are nothing to scoff at.

4. Samsung Galaxy A50s

The phone is no slouch when it comes to taking photos, thanks to its triple rear camera setup of 48MP+5MP+8MP. It allows you to easily take portrait mode shots that are Instagram-worthy. Not to mention, the 4,000 mAh battery will keep it going all day long too.

TL;DR

Reload at least RM10 via the Celcom Life app using credit/debit card or online banking and answer a simple trivia question to win yourself a brand new phone.

Celcom Just Scored An A+ In This Industry Report, Here’s How

Last month, Opensignal, an independent global standard that analyses consumer mobile experience, released a report for the Mobile Network Experience in Malaysia. The data was gathered from a total of 971,486 devices in over 1 billion measurements from June to August 2019.

In this piece, we’re taking a closer look at how Celcom, one of the mobile network operators, did. Celcom topped the charts for 3 of the categories and performed very competitively in the others. Here’s what they did right.

Providing 4G Connectivity Almost Everywhere

In terms of 4G availability out of 100%, Celcom claimed a score of 87.7%. The score indicated that Celcom users with 4G capable devices were able to connect to an LTE network 87.7% of the time.

Unsurprisingly, the brand was Opensignal’s champion for this category. On Celcom’s end, they have more than 9,000 LTE sites nationwide, which they estimate covers 96% of the population in 10 out of the 14 states nationwide.

Quality Video Streaming On-The-Go

Many of us spend our downtime watching videos on YouTube, Facebook and Netflix. Opensignal’s Video Experience Category examines the quality of the video users gets while streaming on 3G or 4G.

With a score of 63.5, this means that Celcom users can get a consistent low-res stream with minor hiccups before and during the stream.

It’s beaten out other providers, but it seems we still have a while to go before we can enjoy high-quality videos without any interruptions while on-the-go in Malaysia.

Defeating A Gamer’s Worst Enemy

Latency turns the most patient of gamers to a raging hulk. So if you are a mobile gamer, using Celcom might just be your best chance to not unleash the inner beast.

Dictionary time: Latency is the average total time that it takes your gaming device to send data to the game server, and back to your device. You might know this as “lag”.

In terms of latency, the lower number is the better one—with Celcom scoring a 43.2ms in the report. The lower the latency, the smoother the online experience for games and even online voice-chat apps.

Keeping Up In Terms Of Speed

While they didn’t take the crown, Celcom wasn’t too far behind in terms of speed. The first place placed on the download and upload chart with 17.7Mbps and 6.6Mbps respectively. Celcom had speeds of 16.3Mbps and 6.4Mbps respectively.

However, Celcom was able to clinch the crown for streaming consistency.

For content creators, having a fast upload speed is as crucial as fast downloads. This means that you’ll be able to get your content out to the masses wherever you are, without worrying if your video was successfully uploaded.

Well-Balanced Overall

In Kuala Lumpur, Celcom topped 3 out of 6 of the categories and in Selangor, they secured 4 out of 6 of the categories and drew in one.

BONUS: 5G Readiness

Even back in 2017, Celcom conducted Malaysia’s first 5G trial and managed a peak throughput of 18GBps with 3ms of latency.

Fast forward to this year, the brand took charge of a 5G Live Cluster Trial around Petaling Jaya Sentral, to test how 5G would perform in real-life environments.

Dictionary Time: A throughput stands for the amount of material or items passing through a system or process.

The next big leap for the telco industry would be the inclusion of 5G-enabled devices, and the activation of 5G networks nationwide.

We’d be very interested to follow the telcos as they work towards this and that’s likely going to be a metric that industry standards like Opensignal will be watching closely too.

8 Things You Need To Know About Celcom Xpax’s Free Daily Unlimited Data Offer

It’s probably not an exaggeration to say that phone data has become the lifeblood of our digital lives. We get entertained, stay in touch, and keep up with work while on the go, largely thanks to phone data.

Keeping this in mind, Celcom Xpax is offering Free Unlimited Internet Every Day for customers who subscribe to any Ultra Pass™ RM10 Weekly and above.

Context: The Ultra Pass™ is an Internet Pass subscription that offers customers with more quota to surf and comes with a daily, weekly, or monthly validity.

There
is a fair bit to unpack about this offer, and we’ve broken it down
all in one place here.

1.
You’ll get 1 hour of unlimited data every single day

Prices
start from RM10 for the weekly Ultra Pass™ to get access to free
unlimited internet for 1 hour every day.

This
means that you get to choose when and where you want to activate it
every day, at your time of choosing and convenience.

And
do remember to redeem it daily, because any unredeemed unlimited
internet will not be carried forward to the next day. Redemption
starts from 12:00am until 11:59pm every day.

2.
The hotspot/tethering situation

The
next question usually is, can you hotspot or tether it? And the
simple answer in this case is, yes, you can.

3.
The VIP treatment on iflix

With
unlimited internet, you’d want to have content to use it with, and
the Ultra Pass™
come with iflix VIP access, with no redemption required.

VIP
access allows you to stream premium movies and TV series and LIVE
special events, with no advertising. For context, iflix’s VIP
access is normally worth RM3 a week and RM10 monthly.

At last count, iflix Malaysia had about 470 different titles, so it will take you a while to get through them. The access expires with the Ultra Pass™ and renews with the pass too.

4.
Unlimited YouTube, anyone?

There’s
nothing like hours upon hours of bingeing on the rabbit hole known as
YouTube. Luckily, all the weekly and monthly Ultra
Pass™ come with free unlimited YouTube
streaming too.

There is a catch to it though: this is more for the night owls, with unlimited YouTube streaming available only from 1 AM to 7 AM daily.

5.
Dual points of access and activation

To
activate the daily Unlimited Internet, just use USSD
*118*2*3#
or the Celcom
Life app
.

For
the Ultra Pass™
itself, you can purchase subscription services, and track and manage
your account by dialling *118# or go through the app.

6.
But wait, there’s more data to use

Besides
the unlimited internet daily, all the Ultra
Pass™ come with internet quota. This
means that outside of the 1 hour daily, you’ll have at
least
2 GBs a week to use, depending
on the Pass you choose.

And
if that’s not enough…

7.
Don’t worry about using up all your data

All
the passes come with unlimited basic Internet (at 64kbps) with the
same validity period as your Ultra Pass™, so you will never be left
high and dry without data. That might not be enough to stream
smoothly, but it will at least let you send emails or messages and
browse social media.

8.
And who should actually use this

We’re not going to pretend that there’s only one type of mobile phone plan or package that’s perfect for everyone, but we can think of several ways an Ultra Pass™ with one hour of unlimited internet daily could come in handy.

Anyone with a long commute would definitely appreciate having free unlimited internet when streaming shows, music or podcasts while on the go.

Midnight YouTube viewing anyone?

Students
who want to study in an area with limited WiFi access? They’d still
be able to access their lecture notes and videos easily even on their
laptops, thanks to being able to hotspot.

If you’re travelling interstate for work, you won’t have to rely on dodgy WiFi with spotty coverage either. And since you get to choose exactly when you activate the unlimited internet, you have the freedom to match it to your schedule, with extra data to use outside of that one hour daily.

A summary of what comes with the weekly and monthly Ultra Passes™

  • You can find out more about Celcom Xpax and Ultra Pass™ here.
  • Subscribe to Ultra Hour Pass from RM10 via the Celcom Life App or dial *118#. Terms and conditions apply.

M’sian Millennials Rank These 6 “Freedoms” And Tell Us What Really Matters In Their Workplace

As a millennial working in a startup, one thing I appreciate is the relative freedom I have at my workplace. One would be being able to wear whatever I like to the office. Every day is a Casual Friday for us.

Workplaces are now more flexible and some employers allow you to either work from home or offsite, as evidenced by the popularity of coworking spaces and cafes as working hubs.

Some large businesses can also be seen operating out of coworking spaces now—with some even hiring coworking spaces to redesign their office spaces, because they recognise the benefits of the freedom and flexibility that coworking carries.

In accordance to how millennials now live, Celcom Xpax is announcing a brand new postpaid plan dubbed the XP Lite™ that offers maximum freedom and flexibility for their users.

And in line with that, we thought to ask millennials, what freedoms are they looking for in workplaces?

What Millennials Want

Based on a quick ask around the office, we found that these 6 freedoms were what our colleagues thought mattered:

  1. Freedom of working schedule – You are not tied to a strict schedule and you are allowed to go in and out of the workplace whenever you like
  2. Freedom of privacy – The freedom to choose NOT to disclose personal information such as political beliefs, sexual identification, relationship status, and etc. (any information that you define as personal)
  3. Freedom of speech – You have the freedom to speak your mind without fear of being dismissed
  4. Freedom of expression – The freedom to express yourself at the workplace (tattoos, dyed hair, no strict attire and etc.)
  5. Freedom of role/job scope – You are not just tied to a single role at your job and you are allowed to expand your scope when necessary
  6. Freedom of personalisation – You have the freedom to add personal touches to your work and are allowed to customise your personal workplace

We sent out a survey to gauge what kind of freedom a millennial would prioritise at their workplace. The results we got were a little unexpected.

Where they worked.

From the questionnaire, most of the answers came from people in the 20 to 29 age range from a variety of roles; 45.5% of them are currently working in startups, and 36.4% of them are working in the corporate world and the remaining were in SMEs.

They were then asked to rank some of the “freedoms” that they deem important to have in their workplace.

Free From Working Schedules

Unsurprisingly, the most important freedom millennials desire is to be free from working schedules.

One of the replies stuck to me as they mentioned the freedom allows them to focus on self-care and side hustles.

Burnout is a major problem in Malaysia, and we recently heard about how we have one of the lowest work-life balances in the world.

Many people often fall into the trap of not getting enough rest and a grinding routine of 9-5 plus overtime definitely doesn’t appeal.

Millennials are more averse to strict timelines for a variety of reasons. Having the flexibility does help when you can head to work at your own convenience and can work during the hours that fit your energy cycles.

Some people also enjoy having the option to choose when they want to work.

Options matter to millennials. With the Celcom Xpax XP Lite™ plan, you can easily size up for more internet if you desire.

Let’s say you have a TV show you want to binge-watch, even while on the go. You can simply size up your XP Lite™ with L or M Pass and watch it without any worries.

Once you’re done binging for that month, simply change and revert to your original plan without any hassle.

Does Privacy At Work Matter?

In this digital age, privacy is often set aside for convenience and the results of the questionnaire reflected that. The lowest in terms of priority according to the millennials we surveyed is the freedom for privacy.

Looking at it one way, we’ve given up on our right to privacy as soon as we sign up for Facebook.

We simply accept Terms and Conditions without reading them. Most of the apps on your phone requires access to monitor your phone usage.

However, for the workplace, most millennials nowadays are open to sharing their beliefs and voicing their political stances and whatnot. Being able to be open with your fellow colleagues will deepen the bond between each other too.

One reply we’ve gotten from the questionnaire specifically highlights: “I’ve never felt that this is something that’s challenged in workplaces in Malaysia.”

One even responded by saying political beliefs and relationship status don’t affect their job.

Freedom To Be Yourself

Freeing yourself from the annoyance of being tied up is important. The traditional model for phone plans usually subjects you to the same plan, without the ability for you to control what it offers.

For example, if a plan offers unlimited messaging but you never use it, then you are paying for what you do not need. The Celcom Xpax XP Lite™ postpaid plan allows you to pick and choose. If you need unlimited calls? Simply check the box for that.

Users can sign up at a low price of RM28 a month and it comes with 1GB of internet with unlimited calls. And depending on your personal usage, you can size up to L or M Pass for more monthly data

Celcom Xpax is also offering the loyal customers that stay on the XP Lite™ with L Pass plan for 6 consecutive months, free unlimited internet every day and much much more.

You could potentially nab yourself a free smartphone or get one at a much lower price when you Gear Up with XP Lite™.

Personally, the freedom to choose my postpaid plan is as important to me as being able to choose when I want to work. If that matters to you too, you can check out this plan.

Why Samsung Fans Will Regret Missing This 2 For 1 Note10 Promo

The Samsung Galaxy Note10 is the latest device from the brand and it was unveiled with great fanfare recently. If you’ve not been paying attention to it, you can read up on our first impressions here. There’s also another reason to pay attention: Celcom is offering you the chance to get 2 Note10 devices for the price of one.

To do so, you will have to take up the EasyPhone™ RENT or EasyPhone™
OWN plans from the telco. Before we get into that, however, here’s an
introduction to the Note10.

The Galaxy Note10 comes in two variants, a
regular Note10 with a 6.3-inch Infinity Display and
a Note10+ with a larger 6.8-inch Infinity Display.
It is also worth noting that the
Note10+ is the largest Note in the series.

With the help of its brand-new triple camera
setup, you can now take pro-grade pictures and videos wherever you go.

The Note10+ can also last you all day, thanks
to its massive 4,300 mAh battery. The stylus is also upgraded and you can
simply use air actions to control the camera.

The 256GB variant of the Note10 is priced at
RM3,699 while the 256GB variant of the Note10+ comes in at RM4,199 with the
512GB variant priced at RM4,799.

If you’ve been on the fence about getting the device, local telco Celcom has listed some enticing pre-order plans for you to go through. Pre-orders started on the 8th of August, and end on the 18th of August.

Get 2 Samsung Galaxy Note10|10+ at 1 Price

For example, using the EasyPhone™ RENT option, you can nab yourself two Galaxy Note 10 devices, starting as low as RM247. Both the RENT and OWN EasyPhone™ options are just for the phone only, and customers will need to top up with a Celcom Mobile Platinum Plus plan.

Editor’s Note: The previous sentence has been modified for clarity.

If you wish to get the Note10+ instead, you
can do so at an even greater deal.

Celcom is offering the same two for one plan, with a cherry on top—a free upgrade to the 512GB variant of the Note10+ when you subscribe to the EasyPhone RENT plan of RM228 a month.

In comparison, if you take the pre-order directly from Samsung, for one Note10+ 512GB variant, you’d be paying about RM199/month instead.

But those who have no use for a second phone can still subscribe to Celcom’s other EasyPhone™ plans starting at RM126 a month.

Now that you’ve decided on a plan, you can choose between four colours of the Note10 or Note10+, the Aura Glow (the one with the shiny glowing colours), Aura Pink, Aura Black or Aura White.

Not pictured: The Aura Pink variant (Aura Pink is only available for Note10)

Regardless of which model you purchase, you
also get Samsung’s pre-order gifts worth up to RM1,159. Depending
on the model you choose, these include the Galaxy Buds (worth RM499), a
wireless battery pack (so you can take advantage of the wireless charging
function), and an extended protection warranty.

As another sweetener, you also stand a chance
to win a share of RM36,000 worth of travel vouchers. So here’s an opportunity
to take your brand new phone on a trip and snap magnificent pictures.

Remember, you only have these 10 days to get
this pre-order through the telco.
