Another loyalty app? We tried Koppiku’s app to find out if it’s worth downloading.

[Written in partnership with Koppiku, but the editorial team had full control over the content.]

These days, it feels like every other business and service comes with its own app.

Now, I get why businesses want to do this. They want to streamline certain operations while rewarding their own customer base.

But come on, my phone is already quite cluttered with random selfies and government-mandated applications (do we still need MySejahtera?). If you want me to download an app, you need to be worth my gigabytes.

As a regular coffee drinker, though, I will typically make room for coffee chains’ loyalty apps (sometimes, they even force you to download the app… but I digress).

One strong contender in the coffee scene is our very own homegrown Koppiku. In our coffee comparison article, Koppiku actually had the cheapest americanos out of all the Malaysian coffee chains we could find.

But enough about prices—what about value? Is Koppiku a brand worth visiting and revisiting?

To find out whether loyalty actually pays with Koppiku, we downloaded their app to see just what they have to offer.

What’s in the app?

Speaking to Vulcan Post, the Koppiku team shared that their app is all about making the Koppiku experience easier, more rewarding, and more personal for customers.

“It’s not just about collecting points, it’s about giving our community better access to perks and updates in one place,” the team explained to us.

What are those perks? For one, users can collect points with every purchase and redeem them for free drinks.

They also celebrate your birthday with you by offering a free drink during your birthday month, so don’t forget to input your birthday when signing up.

Sweetening the download, first-time users can enjoy 50% off their first drink upon signing up. And no, don’t just delete the app after that because there are also exclusive limited-time discounts for seasonal drinks and bundle vouchers you won’t get anywhere else.

Let’s test it ourselves

Of course, the intention behind the app is great, but what is the actual user experience like?

Setting up a profile on the app is more than easy. It just took entering my number and inputting a four-digit verification code sent to my WhatsApp to access the app. But from there, you can also go into the profile tab in the lower right corner to input further details such as your name, birthday, and email.

I dropped by Koppiku’s outlet in UOA Bangsar for a quick pick-me-up. On my way there, I began placing my order online. Make sure you set the right location before you start adding items to your cart, because if you change your location later, you’ll have to restart your order.

In terms of payment options, you can use e-wallets like Grab as well as credit or debit cards.

Each RM1 seems to equate to 1 point. That means spending RM55 at Koppiku would grant me one free Iced Americano.

At the time of writing, their app-exclusive deal was for their Tea-ramisu series. 20% off is given to their Koppi Tea-ramisu and Just Tea-ramisu. There’s also a buy two free one deal on these drinks.

Of course, I had to try their new drinks, so I ordered the Just Tea-ramisu. I also wanted to try their matcha, so I ordered that too.

The whole experience was very smooth and easy. The only thing is that you can’t just order in-store and scan a QR to collect points, it seems.

Aside from that, though, I really do love the user-friendly interface. As a creative myself, I enjoy seeing a beautifully designed landing page, complete with a cute font and graphics.

I’d say that for people who work or live in the vicinity of a Koppiku, this app is a must-have. It makes ordering in advance a breeze, and of course, there’s the added bonus of collecting points and being rewarded with free drinks. Plus, the app-exclusive deals? A no-brainer.

Delivering more value to customers

As of now, though, the delivery option is still under construction. Once that is implemented, I’d say that it’s an app worth downloading even if you’re not able to visit their outlets yourself.

That said, Koppiku seems to have shifted gears a bit for now and is focusing on exclusive in-app deals. So it might take some time before delivery services are launched.

But beyond that, more exciting updates are en route. The Koppiku team revealed to Vulcan Post that they are working on a subscription plan to honour their regulars with even better ways to enjoy their daily coffee.

“Think consistent savings, exclusive access, and more love for our loyal customers,” the team shared.
