ZUS Coffee is introducing a new way for Malaysians to enjoy its coffee.

Called COFFIZZ, it looks like your average canned coffee drink, but that’s not all. Rather, it’s carbonated.

Dubbing the new product as Malaysia’s first halal canned sparkling drink, this also marks the homegrown coffee chain’s foray into the ready-to-drink sector. You may remember that they have some bottled drinks, but those are actually considered freshly brewed.

Using real coffee extract, the drink features light caffeine and is supposed to cater to all kinds of drinkers, including those with low caffeine tolerance.

On the topic of inclusivity, the drink has been halal-certified so all Malaysians can enjoy it with ease of mind.

According to ZUS Coffee’s website, the product comes in sets of three cans or a whole crate of 24 cans.

The three-pack is priced at RM10.50, while the 24-pack carton is RM84, meaning each can is RM3.50.

The three-pack is already sold out. The ZUS Coffee team shared that they had listed 10,000 units on a pre-order basis. Meanwhile, the 24-pack is in stock and available for orders.

A representative from the team shared with Vulcan Post that the 24-pack is only being sold online, but single cans of the beverage can be purchased from select Family Mart outlets.

A fizzy edge

There are already quite a number of ready-to-drink canned coffees available in the Malaysian market, from stalwarts like Nescafé and Wonda Coffee to newer players such as MAD Foods’ vegan coffee drinks

However, when it comes to canned carbonated coffee, COFFIZZ certainly seems to be a pioneer.

Coffee with a fizzy touch isn’t new to ZUS though. One of the brand’s menu items is the Thunder Coffee, after all, which is made with coffee, sparkling water, and a honey lemon syrup.

The COFFIZZ will have its own distinct flavour profile, though, considering it doesn’t include the honey lemon syrup. The ingredients list instead includes sugar, sucralose, and permitted food flavours.

Reaching out to ZUS Coffee, we learnt that there’s a new vertical called ZUS Everywhere that covers fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and lifestyle products. This new product aligns with the plans ZUS Coffee’s COO, Venon Tian, shared last year.

“We don’t want to just be a coffee chain, we want to be a coffee brand,” he explained. “So, we started thinking about what kind of verticals we can go into.”

In that same vein of thought, he shared that ZUS Coffee wants to create a more wholesome offering, much like that of Starbucks’. Starbucks also has its own bottled and canned coffees, which are available in most convenience stores. Will we see the same for ZUS’ COFFIZZ eventually?
