How quickly time flies…weren’t we just talking about the gadgets to look out for in 2015?

We’re now at the mid-year mark, and have seen a fair share of the latest and greatest gadgets of the year — up to this point, at least. That said, I thought it would be a good idea to give you a list of what gadgets have been on the top of my must-have list so far.

Portable Battery Pack

A standard for everyone and anyone who uses a smartphone these days.

Sadly, the need to always be online — whether for work or for play — means your mobile phone will barely survive a whole day on a full charge. Gone are the days when the Nokia 3310, with its behemoth plastic (almost indestructible) chassis and battery life ruled the earth. These days, it’s all about how many times your portable battery chargers can bring your phone back to life.

In a previous post, I narrowed it down to two heavy duty chargers: MiLi and MiPow. But if you prefer a more compact version, you can check out my top picks right here.

You wouldn’t need a portable battery pack if you didn’t have a smartphone. And if I had to recommend you a phone, it would be the iPhone 6. I say this as objectively as possible, having been a staunch Android user since the dawn of smartphones. Not only is it sleek, sturdy, and solid, it also lives up to all the hype. If you’re unconvinced, check out this in-depth review here.

For Android fans, you certainly have a lot more options to choose from. In terms of design, I’d say the HTC One series and the Samsung S6 are your best picks. But if you’re looking for a phone that combines form, function and massive power, check out our review of the Xiaomi Mi Note.

While we’re on the subject of making the most out of your portable chargers, let’s talk about tablets.

Like mobile phones, there’re a lot of them out there, and we’ve seen quite a few impressive ones. While your standard go-to brand might still be Apple for the iPad, iPad Air and iPad Mini, a few Android options offer more budget friendly picks that pack just as much style and power. My top pick so far has been the Dell Venue 8 7000.

Wearable Tech

Finally, this year saw the rise of wearable tech as a standard for all gadget lovers. What was once a mere luxury — even for the most avid tech geeks — are now essentials in every technophile’s arsenal.

As for the best in terms of form and function, it’s a toss up between Motorola’s Moto 360 and of course, the latest Apple Watch.

There you have it — my top gadget picks for the mid-year mark. If you have anything to add to the list, feel free to leave a comment below.
